La Villette · Parc des Buttes-Chaumont · Belleville
Formerly outside Paris, the 19th was annexed in 1860. The Buttes-Chaumont park was created from old quarries and remains the city's most romantic park. La Villette transformed from slaughterhouses to a sprawling cultural center — the Philharmonie, the Cité des Sciences, and the Géode all sit within its grounds.
Young, diverse, and creative. The area around Buttes-Chaumont and Mouzaïa has a village feel with beautiful houses and almost no tourist foot traffic. The Bassin de la Villette becomes an urban beach in summer. This is Paris for people who actually live here.
