Insider Tip
The Marché des Enfants Rouges, Paris's oldest covered market, is a must for a casual lunch. It has food stalls serving cuisine from around the world.
The Vibe

The quieter, cooler, more artistic northern part of the Marais.

The Haut-Marais (Upper Marais) is the hipper, less touristy extension of the 4th's famous Marais. Once the aristocratic heart of Paris with grand hôtels particuliers, it later became a working-class area before its recent transformation into a design and gallery district. The Musée Picasso and the Archives Nationales are here, but so is some of the city's most exciting food and shopping.

Creative, design-forward, gallery-hopping crowds during the day. The Sunday scene is particularly vibrant, with many shops open when the rest of Paris sleeps. Expect a fashion-conscious, culturally engaged demographic.
